 Kashyapa’s Kashmir and Narendra Modi’s Responsibility

In the ancient historical and Puranic traditions of Kashmir, Prajapati Kashyapa holds a very important place. According to the traditional accounts, Kashyapa played a central role in making the land of Kashmir habitable and establishing human settlement and social life there.

This raises an important question:

If Prajapati Kashyapa is traditionally said to have undertaken such a transformation of Kashmir in ancient times, who should carry forward a similar vision in the modern era?

In my view, one of the most appropriate individuals to take up this responsibility is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is being connected to the Kashyapa gotra and as a Kshatriya ruler leading India.

The ancient tradition associated with Kashmir should be transformed into a modern national vision. Narendra Modi should lead a major programme aimed at creating new opportunities for settlement, industries, educational institutions, employment, infrastructure and cultural centres in Kashmir.

If Kashyapa’s role in the ancient tradition represents the transformation of a land into a place suitable for human life and settlement, its modern expression should be the creation of new opportunities for life, prosperity and development in Kashmir.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has frequently spoken about Shri Rama and other elements of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Therefore, I believe he has a historic responsibility to connect Kashmir’s ancient traditions with a modern national development vision.

The legacy of Prajapati Kashyapa should not remain merely a memory.

If the Puranic tradition says that Kashyapa opened a new chapter in the history of Kashmir, then in modern India Narendra Modi should open a new chapter for Kashmir.

That chapter should include not only development, but also settlement, employment, industry, education, culture, heritage and national integration.

Kashyapa’s Kashmir — an ancient legacy.

Narendra Modi’s Kashmir — its modern continuation.
